The Texas CHP Initiative, a non-profit association of business interests, provides leadership on combined heat and power (CHP) applications in commercial, institutional and industrial settings. The Texas CHP Initiative filed comments (with the assistance of DEFG) before the Public Utility Commission of Texas on a proposed energy efficiency rule. The Texas CHP Initiative also works closely with the Gulf Coast CHP Applications Center (located at the Houston Advanced Research Center in The Woodlands) on CHP workshops.
The Texas CHP Initiatitve champions combined heat and power as the most effective, economical and environmentally-sensible energy option for Texas. CHP/cogeneration provide 18,000 megawatts of clean, reliable power to Texans today, and thousand of additional projects can enhance reliability, lower emissions, lower energy costs, provide local job growth and enhance the competitive electricity market environment in Texas. Small generating units located close to load centers reduce the pressures on the transmission network.
