2005-05-15 Distributed energy to take off in 5-10 years, financial group says IPPSO-FACTO, May 2005
Distributed energy can be expected to start a period of rapid growth sometime in the next five to ten years, says a group of financiers that focuses on the sector.
The predictions come from a sector review by the Washington DC-based Distributed Energy Financial Group LLC, which released its Distributed Energy Sector Review in May. The review observes that "All major technological transformations experience a point of inflection during their growth trajectory - a time when slow steady growth it replaced by an upward thrust in the growth curve caused by a rapid adoption of new technologies." The group expects this to take place for distributed energy, which includes distributed generation as well as energy-saving services, some time in that period.
The group has created a Distributed Energy Market Index, which considers economic growth in fifty large metropolitan areas, government policies and regulations, energy prices, air quality issues, transmission congestion, "etcetera." The results are mapped to display areas of market interest (for the US only).
