The Utility Standards Board (USB) considers the opportunities for standardizing Smart Grid business policies, processes and system interfaces. The business benefits of standardization are well documented. Well-designed standards enable interoperability among systems and devices which increases process efficiencies and fosters innovation by solution developers.

The Energy Retailer Research Consortium (ERRC) prepares the Annual Baseline Assessment of Choice in Canada and the United States (ABACCUS) report and conducts research on value-added energy services for retail energy consumers in restructured (unbundled) energy markets.
