Shalom Flank
Shalom Flank has been the principal of Global Works Consulting since 1999, serving as a trusted strategy advisor for technology commercialization to government, academia, business and venture capital, including the National Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Congress, the Information Sciences Institute, General Dynamics, Sterling Energy, Apollo Energy Systems, ExerGen BioScience, and Terrapin Partners. Dr. Flank is also the director (since 2002) of the Renewable Energy Group for the lobbying and consulting firm Haft, Harrison, and Wolfson, Inc.
He has played key roles in commercializing leading-edge information technologies, renewable energy, sensors, and biotech. Most recently, he is organizing a new venture to provide procurement services and commercial readiness assessments for green and sustainable technologies in the real estate industry.
Dr. Flank is a former program manager at DARPA, and continues to consult on advanced concepts for the Pentagon. He has also been visiting scientist at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, has served on the staff of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Stanford University, and the U.S. House of Representatives, and has had appointments at Harvard and MIT.
His Master’s and Doctoral degrees from MIT focused on energy and economics and on science, technology, and policy. His unique expertise lies at the intersection of business and technology – understanding the potential, the pitfalls, and the path for creating utility and profit out of new technology.
